In the past year, the Technology Centre for Business Informatics (TEWI) has experienced both highs and lows. We are particularly unhappy that Manuela Vogel left TEWI at the beginning of the year due to her successful graduation. We would like to sincerely thank her for her many years of work in the TEWI team and wish her all the best for the future. The rejection of a CTI application on the topic of personalised newsletters, which was written in cooperation with the Swiss Distance University of Applied Sciences (FFHS), was another setback that TEWI had to accept in the middle of the year. Nevertheless, some successes were also recorded. For example, the acceptance of two articles, one on customer self-service and one on music downloads, at the 10th International Conference on Business Informatics, which took place in Zurich. In addition to such current trends, research activities also took into account topics that are highly relevant to the Valais region with its special geographical location and economic structure, such as IT use in the tourism industry or the successful web presence of SMEs. Another highlight of the year was the 16th TEWI Forum on “Online Marketing and E-commerce in Valais”, which took place at the Zeughaus Kultur in Brig.
I invite you to read more about the activities of the TEWI in this activity report. I would also like to thank all partner institutions for their constructive cooperation with the TEWI. In particular, I would like to thank the Canton of Valais and the municipality of Brig-Glis for their generous financial contributions, as well as Prof. Dr. Thomas Myrach for his valuable advisory support. I hope for continued good cooperation and successful projects.
Marcel Grüter, Managing Director TEWI
