The Technology Centre for Business Informatics (TEWI) can look back on a successful 2012. In addition to contributions to conferences in Barcelona and Paris, two further studies were successfully placed at the International Conference on IT and Tourism. In addition to the focus on tourism, the TEWI took into account considered in its research projects topics and trends that are highly relevant for the Valais region with its special geographical location and economic structure, such as IT use in various service industries or the successful web presence of SMEs. Another highlight was the 17th TEWI Forum on the topic “Open & free, join for free! The non-commercial internet”, which took place at the Zeughaus Kultur in Brig. I would like to invite you to read more about the activities of the TEWI in this activity report.
The current reporting year was my last full year as Executive Director of the TEWI. Due to the completion of my dissertation, I will leave the TEWI at the end of March 2013. Prof. Dr. Thomas Myrach will take over the management ad interim. He can rely on the support of the many experienced TEWI staff. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Thomas Myrach for his always appreciated advisory support. I would also like to thank the Canton of Valais and the Municipality of Brig-Glis for their generous financial contributions as well as all partner institutions for their constructive and good cooperation. For the future, I wish you and the TEWI team continued good cooperation and many exciting and successful projects.
Marcel Grüter, Managing Director TEWI
